Alejandro Colomar 6e16d7ac5b Auto: mirroring installation structure in build tree.
This makes the build tree more organized, which is good for adding new
stuff.  Now, it's useful for example for adding manual pages in man3/,
but it may be useful in the future for example for extending the build
system to run linters (e.g., clang-tidy(1), Clang analyzer, ...) on the
C source code.

Previously, the build tree was quite flat, and looked like this (after
`./configure && make`):

It also solves one issue introduced in
5a37171f73 ("Added default values for pathnames.").  Before that
commit, it was possible to run unitd from the build system
(`./build/unitd`).  Now, since it expects files in a very specific
location, that has been broken.  By having a directory structure that
mirrors the installation, it's possible to trick it to believe it's
installed, and run it from there:

    $ ./configure --prefix=./build
    $ make
    $ ./build/sbin/unitd

NGINX Unit is a lightweight and versatile open-source server that has three core capabilities:

  • acts as an HTTP reverse proxy,
  • serves static media assets,
  • runs application code in seven languages.

Running a Hello World App

Suppose you saved a PHP script as /www/helloworld/index.php:

To run it on Unit with the unit-php module installed, first set up an application object. Let's store our first config snippet in a file called config.json:

Saving it as a file isn't necessary, but can come in handy with larger objects.

Now, PUT it into the /config/applications section of Unit's control API, usually available by default via a Unix domain socket:

       /path/to/control.unit.sock http://localhost/config/applications

Next, reference the app from a listener object in the /config/listeners section of the API. This time, we pass the config snippet straight from the command line:

Now Unit accepts requests at the specified IP and port, passing them to the application process. Your app works!

Finally, query the entire /config section of the control API:

Unit's output should contain both snippets, neatly organized:
